While the crypto market continues to gain momentum, Europe is looking for ways to maintain financial independence and stability. One of these paths is the launch of the digital euro. European Central Bank board member Fabio Panetta believes that the launch of the digital euro is not just a technological innovation, but the key to strengthening Europe’s financial sovereignty!
Why MiCA regulation is not a panacea
Despite the introduction of MiCA regulation, the European uniоn has not yet been able to fully protect itself from the risks associated with crypto assets from other countries. Platforms and issuers operating outside the EU operate outside transparency and control, posing a threat to the region’s financial systеm, Panetta said.
Panetta believes that laws alone are not enough – a more effective tool is needed to contain systemic risks in the digital asset sector. And such a tool, in his opinion, could be a digital euro – a safe and reliable alternative.
Digital Euro – a guarantee of trust
“EU citizens remain vulnerable to risks from foreign crypto companies that do not adhere to our standards of transparency and security. To think that regulation alone can stop this process is to underestimate the speed and scale of the industry’s development,” Panetta said.
He is convinced that it is the digital currency issued by the EU Central Bank that can become the foundation for user confidence and stability in the rapidly changing world of digital payments.
Not so long ago, ECB chief economist Philip Lane also expressed concern that Europe is overly dependent on American payment systems and dollar-focused stablecoins. Such dependence, in his opinion, could undermine the position of the euro as the leading reserve currency of the region. The launch of the digital euro will strengthen the position of the single currency and reduce external dependence.
It turns out that the digital euro is not just an experiment. This is Europe’s strategic response to the challenges of the cryptocurrency era. And it can play a crucial role in shaping the future of European financial architecture!
